Overrides without a name attached

23 June 2026 · Nurul Hana Abdullah

Credit decision trails fail in a predictable way. The till records that an override occurred. It records a role: supervisor. It does not record who stood at the till, because the code is taped inside the cash drawer and used by whoever is covering lunch.

For installment and store-credit applications, that gap matters when a file is later questioned. Affordability was stretched. A decline was flipped. The log says a supervisor agreed. Six months on, the store cannot say whom.

Testing is straightforward. Sample overrides. Ask whether the user identity is unique, whether the reason code is mandatory, and whether the original decline still exists. If any of those three is missing, the finding writes itself.

Remediation is an operations conversation, not a new platform. Unique logins, dual control above a ticket threshold, and a reason that cannot be a blank space. We document the current state so that conversation has evidence.
